It's the dawn of 2020 and time for action! I feel good about 2020 being a decade of action on climate change. Important people are starting to come around and get involved. Activists are making waves. Progress is made. The tide is trying to turn. There's lots of things we can do (individually & collectively) and I'll write about that more later.
For starters, let's kick the year off right with a new conservation book for the book club!
There's so many amazing books out there and January 2020 is Lost Antarctica, by James McClintock. I'm personally really excited about this one because at the end of this year I'm going to Antarctica! And James McClintock is one of the leading scientists about Antarctica. Antarctica is important because it holds much of the world's freshwater, on land, as ice, out of the ocean. But as the world warms and ice melts that ice will cause sea levels to rise. This is different from sea ice which is already on water and does not contribute to sea level rise. Think about ice in a drink. As the ice melts the drink doesn't overflow, it just melts and eventually becomes warm liquid (or air temperature). Think of Antarctica as a pool, with a hose being land ice. As the ice melts there, it pours into the ocean (our pool) from where it was captive on land (in the hose), and the water level rises. There's so much ice on land in Antarctica that melting will cause massive sea level rise.

New year, new decade!, new book to read. I'm personally really excited about this one because at the end of this year I'm going to Antarctica! This needs to be a decade of action because we've already wasted too much time bickering as it is. Let's do work and save the world and ourselves!! 🌎 Education is important too and the book club link is in the bio! 📚 . #Antarctica2020 #Antarctica #takeyourplace #women4climate #climatechange #climateaction
So needless to say, this is an important time and decade to see how the world will change.
